Birthday Sample Speech

Thank you to everyone who took time away from this long weekend to help celebrate my father’s (enter year) 50th birthday.

We are moved by your generosity with the mountain of gifts. The gag gifts are much appreciated such as the walking cane and the two liter bottle of Rogaine. Seriously, the most generous gift is your time, and I hope that you enjoy the evening half as much as we are.

I would especially like to thank (name) who has tirelessly prepared for this surprise party. The wonderful accents such as these beautiful (name a decoration – eg balloons/cake etc.) decorations were all her doing. You are welcome to come over and decorate my (apartment/house/flat) anytime!

When I think of my father I think of his sense of humor and how he has encouraged me to be a dreamer.

I think my father’s most famous trait is his ability to make people laugh around him. His trademark self-deprecating style is world famous. Okay, maybe not world famous, but I think that it is famous amongst everyone here today. (Insert example of his humor)

Secondly, my father has always encouraged dreams, big dreams in everyone around him. He would always tell me that even a solitary person can change the world. He would tell me the stories of Martin Luther King or Ghandi. He wanted me to take the plunge in whatever activity inspired me or even piqued my interest. It did not have to be scientific or commercial. He believed any type of challenge was worthwhile and always encouraged me to look at social justice or artistic pursuits as well as traditional ambitions. He is my one-man fan club and I have the fake trophies and medals to prove it. When I was child he would have a trophy made up for me that would say M.V.P. even though I was the farthest thing from a good athlete. Now that I am an adult he makes me replica medals of the Nobel Prize. These symbols of encouragement hang in my office

It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway, that my father means everything to me. He’s always been there for me, even during my weird (name a stage in high school) heavy metal days phase in high school. It was with his generous financial support that I was able to attend college and pursue my dreams.

To my dear father, nothing is old about you except your jokes!
